Global Competence

Developing Global Competence Through Authentic Global Connections

Skills, Values and Behaviours that Students Can Gain Through DigiPals

By connecting students around the globe, DigiPals provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain the skills, values and behaviours that contribute to global competence in an authentic environment through active learning.

When connecting directly with peers from all over the world, students are more likely to be engaged and take in the information more meaningfully. As they become aware of the world around them and the people in it, they will build their global competence, helping students be better equipped to thrive in a more diverse, interconnected world - significant for college preparation and career-readiness.

FIVE skills, values, and behaviours, in relation to Global Competence, that students can gain through DigiPals

  1. INVESTIGATE THE WORLD: Students explore the world beyond their immediate environment. They are aware, curious and interested in learning about the world and how it works; understanding new people and places and thus opening up their mindset and opportunities.

  2. RECOGNIZE PERSPECTIVES: Become aware, understand and appreciate the values, opinions and beliefs of their own and others enabling them to be accepting, respectful and kind to others.

  3. COMMUNICATE IDEAS: Students communicate their ideas effectively and engage in open, appropriate and effective interactions with diverse audiences.

  4. TAKE ACTION: Students use their ideas and create solutions, whereby appropriate action is taken for collective well-being and sustainable development  to improve conditions and make a difference in the world.

  5. ADAPT TO DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS: Students learning about different social norms and cultural values around the world will develop strong social and communication skills that allow them to adapt to different environments and thrive in a more diverse, interconnected world. This is becoming more and more significant for college preparation and career-readiness.
